Students understand the responsibility implicit in opportunity.

Since skills like properly washing their own uniforms are taught early on, children take home added abilities to contribute. Out of gratitude, students talk of new ways they share with their families. A child told of forgoing his evening food so that his siblings, who did not have two meals at school, could eat more. Each weekend, students take home books to read to their siblings and neighbor children. During school break, several children hosted a summer program of reading and crafts.
