Food for Hungry Minds is a fledging organization that is establishing a solid track record of success in preparing disadvantaged children to succeed in good high schools and life. To date, two schools have been established, each the product of a commitment by a primary, launch corporate partner. Other donors have joined the effort. Ronald
McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) sponsors a whole class for the full three-year program. In other cases, employees in a location donate toward a particular need like the costs of a 3-day camp experience or to underwrite groundwork for launch a FHM initiative in another country.
How would your company benefit from sponsoring a classroom of students in a location where you have operations or sales? Would you like your employees to connect personally with the impact of your foundation’s citizenship investment? What would it mean to be associated in your markets with “achieving the impossible” for poor children?
Navitaire LLC
The global vision for Food for Hungry Minds grew among colleagues at Navitaire, an innovator in the airline industry. Corporate funds for the launch FHM school made it possible to begin educating poor children in Manila, where nearly a third of the company's employees develop software and serve Navitaire's airline customers. A third class of children, fully sponsored by Navitaire, is now in the core elementary program.
Cargill
Cargill’s track record of corporate citizenship, commitment to education, and employee volunteerism makes partnership with Food for Hungry Minds a natural fit. As founding partner in the second Food for Hungry Minds School near its Bulacan plants, Cargill continues a long tradition of “Nourishing People. Nourishing Ideas.” In 2010, Cargill again became a launch partner, this time as a FHM school was established in Villanueva, Honduras. Cargill Animal Nutrition in the Philippines is now supporting its second class of children for the three-year program.
Accenture
Global consulting, technology, and outsourcing company Accenture collaborates with clients across industries to help them become high-performance businesses. In the Philippines, Accenture employees have long engaged creatively with FHM children. The new Accenture initiative, Skills to Succeed, focuses on educating people around the world, building skills that enable them to participate in and contribute to the economy and society. In 2009, global Accenture made an initial major donation to FHM Philippines.
General Mills
General Mills began investing in Food for Hungry Minds students in 2008, helping support a class of children in their final year of the elementary program. The grant from the global General Mills Foundation has grown over the years, continuing to fund part of a class. Children in both Philippine schools have also benefitted from local General Mills food contributions. A school day may start with a breakfast of cereal or pancakes. A camp obstacle course may end with a novel treat: granola bars. Additionally, General Mills has sent employee talent to serve with the FHM board.
Banco FICOHSA
The major Honduran Banco FICOHSA has invested over many years to develop a network of over 100 model pre-schools. In addition to recognition as a leader in corporate social responsibility locally, Banco FICOHSA ranked as a 2010 Great Place to Work in Central America. Now, in addition to their work helping young children prepare for school, Banco FICOHSA is also supporting the work of Food for Hungry Minds_Honduras, preparing poor children to succeed in good bi-lingual high schools.
General Electric
As GE Volunteers interacted with FHM children over the years, a strong relationship began to develop. From students invited along on outings, GE employees moved on to mobilize the funding and personnel needed for annual vaccinations. In 2010, the Philippine Council of GE Volunteers supported a FHM application for a grant from GE Volunteers Foundation to enhance science teaching in the Philippines schools.
Ronald McDonald House Charities
By creating, finding and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children, RMHC is working to better the lives of children and their families around the world.
